thought | Suggestions |
| Live
in Ealing, work in High Wycombe, Bucks (41 - 50) | Because I
always enjoy your concerts and knew I'd enjoy the TVU one too. (For me, hearing
that wonderful Steinway and also seeing how a passion makes people go to extraordinary
effort to make it accessible and enjoyable for others.) As always, the programme
was carefully planned, balanced and well rehearsed and that both you and Robert
were enjoying yourselves. The venue, food and ambiance was just right. It was
really an ambitious thing to do, organizing two events and it worked so well. | I think there was a change in the timings of the concert
after the RARA newsletter was published,
so I think pinning down the time well in advance is a good idea. Bear in mind
we can extend the publicity by getting in touch with other residents associations
locally (e.g.. Boston Manor and Kingsdown). I really hope that some of the artistes
we've heard at your house will also join in. The TVU hall is a great find. |
| Live
in Brentwood, Essex (41- 50) | To see and support a friend perform.
The original compositions. Once my daughter whispered to me that the guitarist
was better than me, I started losing interest in him - ONLY JOKING!!:). I hadn't
seen Anne play to an audience before, and have to say it took my breath away...very
good. The venue was relaxed, and unfortunately we couldn't stay for the reception.
My daughter came with me (plays the viola), and I felt that she had her first
real experience with local cultural events. An education. | Probably
one less opening guitar solo at the start.....the format probably HAS been worked
out, but it just seems a long time before you hear the piano pieces kick in. |
| Live
and work in Ealing (41 - 50) | To see the live performance of
the piano composition + to hear Robert live Variety of composition + commitment
of the musicians, it is music for the world. If this is the kind of programme
you have in store for the world tour you are guaranteed a massive success. But
not only the selection, also the execution were absolutely riveting. Sadly missed
the reception. The concert venue was particularly hot on this very hot day, but
the acoustics made up for that. | I'd say broader marketing,
but you already had to put another performance in because of oversubscribing,
so there's no need for further marketing as such here. |
| South
West -- Guildford, Surrey (over 51) | I enjoy music and like
both piano and guitar. Quality of performance in both individual and duet.
The concert was extremely enjoyable for both performance, very relaxed environment,
location and easy to get into to. It was obvious that you both enjoyed giving
the concert and that came across very well to the audience, who I believe were
very receptive. Post concert reception was also unexpected and very good (except
for running out of food... but that wasn't the fault of the organizers, only the
greediness of the audience from the 7 PM concert. I would suggest if food was
to be served post concert, then the use of smaller plates would restrict those
who seemed incapable or reluctant to understand that the food was meant as canapes/hors
d'oeuvres or snacks and not a main course....) Great concert Anne.... Don't go
back to the day job and do have a friend drop a line to the Sultan of Brunei waxing
lyrical about one of his loyal subjects making it to the top of the musical culture
chain.... I'm sure if it was put correctly you wouldn't want for sponsorship..... | I have nothing to add on what could improve. It was a delightful
evening only restricted by time. It may be that at some time in the future you
consider other kinds of music such as jazz, blues etc.... and alternate. Or bring
in a guest musician also... with for example a saxophone... or a brass instrument
and so on... But no, was superb evening and I enjoyed it very much. The question
that isn't here to answer is "Would I do it again?" the answer is "Yes,
definitely." |
| Live
and work in NW1 (over 51) | Because you invited me and I know
you. The combination of classical guitar and piano, in my (limited) concert-going.
From initial e-mail reply: "Just a quick one to say how much Jill and I enjoyed
your concert - and how very impressive your playing and composition both were.
I don't know if you're aware that I used to work in one of the London music colleges
(Trinity, before it moved to Greenwich), and I'm used to hearing accomplished
players. You should be able to devote more of your career to music if you wish
to." Laying on the reception afterwards was an especially nice touch.
| Live Ealing, work central London (30 - 35) | Never seen piano
and guitar performed together in a concert. Thought the concert was really
special. Was particularly impressed that despite the credentials of the musicians
it was a free concert. Great that things like this happen in the local community.
Nice to see it at a local venue instead of having to trek into central London.
Favourite bits were Anne's own compositions and the last two pieces Anne and Robert
performed together. Good to see people queuing down the street to come to the
later one! Didn't attend the reception. | Maybe turn Robert's
mike up a bit [The microphone was for recording not amplification.] |
| Acton
(41 - 50) | Concert: great (organisation of the room, with queuing
systems, could have been smoother) Post-concert reception: bigger than life | Maybe
have a half-hour drink session for the people who arrive just before time. Make
it a paying event (donations, as I understand it, were not that big). |
| Guildford
(20 - 29) | It was a fantastic night, big success, everyone
who came really liked the music and there should be more of these occasions! I
think the free food and post concert reception was a very good idea as it gets
the community together and people get to meet other people in their area, whom
they may not have had the chance to meet before. Thanks so much for inviting me
to the concert, it was a privilege to watch and listen and to come with you guys
out to the pub and restaurant, I had a really good time! Well done, I can't believe
you organised everything yourself! How did you do that, with no help? | More
publicity, bigger venue if possible (?!) it was so popular that it was packed
out, and some people had to stand! The town hall would be a good venue... |
| Richmond
(36 - 40) | Because the music was unusual (not much music is
composed for piano + guitar), and I wanted to hear pentatonic piano music, and
meet Anne for the first time. A good mixture of people; the fact that people
did not have to purchase tickets in advance; the fact that there were 2 parts
to the evening (concert + reception). Concert - very interesting; Reception
- excellent spread, and good atmosphere (good thing it didn't rain, though), and
conveniently close to concert. Good of the restaurant to supply more food for
those at the back of the queue. | The only (minor) point I'd
like to make is that, on arriving at the pub, I wasn't quite sure where to go,
and had to ask at the bar. When saw the buffet, there was no queue, and I started
at the 2nd table. By the time I'd taken things from the 2nd table, I realised
that by then there was a long queue forming at the 1st table, so I just made do
with the (excellent) food on the 2nd table. But, had there been someone (or a
sign) to say "Please start here", then I'd have started at the 1st table,
and I could have tried the food from there too. [But this didn't spoil an excellent
evening] |
| Nottingham (36
- 40) | To hear beautiful music in convivial company. Bringing
good music to those who might not otherwise experience it. Really enjoyed
it. Good to be able to meet people afterwards. Venue excellent - nearby and large
enough. Food good (but could have been more of it!) Especially good to have outdoor
reception with the heat wave on. "A revolution in the way we make music" | Would
be good if there was just one concert, and the food was eaten at the same venue
(e.g. a back-hall) |
| Hammersmith
(41- 50) | whycome: with the friends whyunique: the music
which Anne created and played with such passion otherevents: I have been to
many concerts but I experienced for the first time to listen to the composer and
talented piano player in one person whatthink: Concert was very good Food was
delicious Venue was perfect | To market it more as I believe
more people would turn up if they know much in advance |
| Hanwell
(41 - 50) | whycome: to hear nice music whyunique: unusual
inspiring - good to hear original composition. Post concert was excellent,
refreshing having open air venue on warm night great food. I liked the performance
space, a shame the windows couldn't be opened, lovely Steinway | shame
there was no lighting to add effect. music was lovely |
| Study
in Ealing, live in Elephant & Castle (20 - 29) | excellent
performance, excellent night out afterward, busy before, during and after the
concert but really goooooood time | a real studio with a multitrack
recorder! more food at the pub!!! air conditioning!!! |
| Live
in Barons Court/ work in Holborn (41 - 50) | My friend Anne
Ku was performing and I expected excellence - and found it. A free event open
to the whole community. Good balance between the separate offerings of the
two performers and their joint efforts were obviously well-rehearsed. The concert
was very uplifting. | Widen the audience by inviting schools
and community groups. Consider mixing styles of music so that people who do not
necessarily warm to classical programmes might be tempted in by something more
popular. |
| Ealing (41 -
50) | I feel good after this excellent concert. It was very
well prepared. Food excellent.BRAVO.THANK YOU. | I would want
to hear more Spanish music like flamenco. I know that Robert plays this kind of
music very well. |
| Live
in North London, work in Central London (36 - 40) | I came because
Anne and Robert make good sounds whyunique: the sense of comfort otherevents:
yes. at Anne's house, at whatthink: good music. I really enjoyed Robert's guitar
playing. And Anne's compositions were comfortable as well as thought provoking.
The venue became irrelevant. It was just right and the company afterwards was
relaxing. | Be closer to where I live. Don't become any bigger.
Start working with musicians from other countries |
| Ealing
(30 - 35) | We came firstly to support to both, and secondly
because it looked a very interesting programme with lots of unusual works. Plus
we know how brilliantly you both play! whyunique: Composers we'd never even
heard of/rare combination of piano and guitar/nice relaxed atmosphere - not at
all pretentious like some classical concerts We both very much enjoyed the
concert. The programme was carefully balanced and thought out, the playing extremely
polished and well prepared. We particularly enjoyed the works for combined piano
and guitar. It was an interesting and varied programme. The venue was perfect
for this type of concert. We didn't go to the reception, so can't comment on that. | Possibly Anne could have paused a little longer between her
solo piano compositions; it wasn't always clear where one ended and the next began.
They are interesting works and deserved a little more space so we could fully
appreciate them. I don't think the Mayor had a lot to contribute to the evening!
However, maybe his presence encouraged people to donate more generously. |
| Ealing
(41 - 50) | We came as friends of Anne Ku. Wonderful music played
with zest and expression whyunique: combination of piano and guitar The
concert was brilliant. Both musicians were very expressive and played with gusto.
Highly entertaining. We did not stay for the buffet. The ambiance and venue were
excellent | Anne Ku should play for a longer time |
| West
Hampstead (20 - 29) | Very interesting as it was different.
Very enjoyable. Sorry - I didn't take photos | It was a bit
difficult for those at the 2nd concert to meet those from the 1st who were already
in the reception. |
| London
(41 - 50) | whycome: Classical Music whyunique: A new work
Excellent all round | Air conditioning in hot weather |
| East
London (36 - 40) | whycome: for the culture, music and food.
whyunique: I have never heard piano and guitar duo, so it was very interesting
to me. otherevents: not piano and guitar duo whatthink: The concert was really
good. I enjoyed very much. Food was quite good. | The post
concert reception can be improved, though I don't know how. I just felt that it
was like everybody grab the food and go. It would be good to make it a social
event where audience have more interaction with each other during the reception.
Maybe it was because it was quite late when the concert finished so everybody
had to rush home. But in general, it was a good and successful event and I would
like to attend more of them. Thank you. xie xie |
| Richmond
(20 - 29) | whycome: I am interested in Piano, as I am learning
it at the moment. I expect to learn something from others. whyunique: Well
organised otherevents: Yes, I did. I went Bolivar Hall a few times, as many
concerts are organised there. whatthink: The concert was well organised. I really
enjoyed it. The Chinese food was very delicious, as I am Chinese and enjoy the
Chinese meal very much. | It would be great if you can play
other famous people's music as well. However I did enjoy your music. Just to cater
different people's tastes, it would be better to consider a wider range of music
when you make your decisions. It is only my personal opinion. |
| Bayswater
(20 - 29) | whycome: I went to the concert for entertainment
as it's first time to attend the piano and guitar concert. whyunique: it's
impressive event and it was well organised otherevents: yes, I have been to
the Violin concert in Russell square whatthink: Both of artists have put efforts
inside the performance. It was good and post-concert reception was great as well
-- good food and nice friends. | I think it's better for the
organiser to register all the visitors i.e. the e-mail address or tel. no. So
that in future, they can be informed the coming concerts. |
| North
London (36 - 40) | Basically, I enjoyed the music but didn't
really like the venue (lack of ambiance). Robert is quite impressive! I didn't
really hear him play when we were at your house. The duo pieces were interesting
but I would have enjoyed more of a contrast between piano and guitar. It seemed
like the instruments were playing more or less together most of the time, in terms
of style and the notes played. | I bet you two could compose
some very compelling and original music that makes the most of your fluid feeling
and his flamenco accents. |
| Retired
in Ealing (over 51) | Hearing original composition for piano.
Interesting - a good combination and enjoyable! We felt relaxed and refreshed
afterwards. We could not stay - but the ambiance and venue were friendly with
helpful people at the door.
| West
Ealing (over 51) | I wanted to listen to Anne. She was very
happy when she was playing as if she was introducing the beauty of the world to
us. The piano was singing. It was unique and I left the room happy. | To
give Anne and Robert more time to perform them, preparing the event (media, food,
place, invitations, etc.). |
| Czechoslovakia
(20 - 29) | Thanks a lot again for that wonderful night and
wish you all the best in your future career. Music is something one can only do
with their heart. And you've got such a big heart and there's so much music in
it... It was lovely to have gotten to know you and would like to hear from you
from time to time how you're doing and if you have any other concerts. Want to
keep coming back to London, since I've got amazing background here and also a
second family so keep me updated about your music, please!
| Horsham,
Surrey (41 - 50) | I just want to say a very sincere thank you
for asking me to your concert. I am so glad you did because I thought it was a
wonderful inspiring event, and I was incredibly impressed. It was very kind of
you to tell everyone that my book had helped you, but I could see that a tremendous
amount of vision, imagination and determination (not to mention artistry) had
gone into it all – and I’m sure you didn’t find all that in my book! I would really
love to hear more about which parts of my book you found most useful, and also
how you went about turning vision into reality. | If there
is any way I can ever help you to make your vision [of taking your concerts around
the world and give access to a greater group of people] come true, please don’t
hesitate to call on me. |
| Epsom,
Surrey (41 - 50) | Major congrats on last night. Home Run. You
cultured, and fed a community for free! And it was acknowledged by the community
leader. You should feel complete! You have invented and done something huge and
significant! I really enjoyed the concert as did Mary. Even Amelia dealt with
it well. It was our pleasure being there.
| Ealing
(over 51) | YOU REALLY LOOKED VERY GOOD AND COOL, AND YOU ARE
A VERY GOOD PAIR ON STAGE! I ENJOYED SO MUCH THAT I REGRETTED I DID NOT STAY FOR
THE SECOND PART. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL. DEFINITELY , WE HAVE THE SAME VISION
ON EARTH. I READ YOUR PROGRAMME: SO MUCH TO READ!!
